PREP · GRINDING · REPAIRS
Concrete prep and repair the base of a lasting floor.
Most coatings that peel have one thing in common: poorly prepared concrete. At OPAL, prep isn't an add-on. It's the first step of every project.
OPAL
We don't hide bad concrete under a nice colour
Store-bought epoxy paint kits are often applied over concrete that's just been washed. Within months, the coating lifts under hot tires. A professional coating needs an open, clean surface to bond to.
That's why we prepare the slab by mechanical grinding, remove old coatings when needed and repair cracks, spalls and holes before applying anything. Every planned repair is clearly listed in your quote.

WHAT PREP INCLUDES
Slab assessment
We inspect the concrete's condition, cracks, contaminants and moisture before recommending a system.
Mechanical grinding
Opens up the concrete surface so the coating bonds properly.
Crack and spall repair
Filling cracks, holes and areas pitted by winter salt.
Old coating removal
Removing peeling paint or epoxy where needed.
RECOMMENDED IF YOUR CONCRETE HAS
- Cracks or spalls
- Salt damage or pitting
- Peeling old paint
- Oil stains or contaminants
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Standard mechanical prep is included in our flake and metallic systems. Bigger repairs, like large cracks or removing an old coating, depend on your slab's condition. They're assessed and listed separately in your written quote, so there are no surprises.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why not just paint my garage floor?
Garage paint is a thin layer that bonds poorly to unground concrete and often lifts under hot tires. A professional system over prepared concrete lasts much longer.
My floor already has peeling epoxy. Can you redo it?
Yes. The old coating is removed where needed, then the surface is prepared like a new slab.
Can you repair concrete without coating it?
Send us photos. We assess each request based on the slab's condition and how it will be used.
How do you know if the concrete is too damp?
Moisture is checked during the assessment. It affects which system we choose and how it's installed.
